Corn on the Cob

 We have picked corn  twice now from our garden.  We love fresh corn on the cob!  

Lena and the kids picked the corn,

 

and Mike and the kids shucked the corn.

 

Then we washed and cooked the corn

 

 so everyone could eat the corn.

The little red hen may have eaten hers all alone, but Lena was glad she didn't have too.  It would have been too much for Lena to eat all on her own anyway. Thanks guys for helping!

Happy 4th

We hope this Independence Day finds all of you happy and well.  We started the day off right by making muffins and mowing the lawn.  Then we headed over to the church for a flag raising ceremony presented by the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America and pledge of Allegiance.  We ate a delicious potluck breakfast and headed home.  Before some of us changed we got some family photos.  Not everyone wanted to cooperate at the same time.

The picnic pork roast is in the slow cooker, the corn is shucked and in the fridge, the watermelon and rootbeer are both busy chillin'.  We have some fireworks to get.  More of the lawn is mowed, but it's so HOT outside.  We'll take care of the rest later.  Maybe we'll head to the pool to chill (if that's possible in lukewarm water).  If we feel like it, we'll head downtown this evening to watch the fireworks.

Fun Stuff

This week was lots of fun.  We picked our first round of corn.  No pictures, but it was so good!  Homegrown sure beats the store and the farmers' market.  You can pick the corn right when the kernels are mature, but still so tender and sweet.  Yum!

Ethan got his special date with Mommy and Daddy.  He had the choice of going to a restaurant or all-you-can-eat sundaes.  He opted for the sundaes.   It was fun going to the store to pick out toppings and ice cream.

 Daddy even made peanut butter caramel sauce to go with it.  He had neapolitan ice cream, gummy worms, chocolate covered peanuts, chocolate syrup, sprinkles, whipped cream, and wafer cookies.

 We had lots of fun talking with Ethan and eating ice cream.

 

On Saturday we picked some carrots for our lunch.  Rebecca was a bit overcome by this extra large one.

 It's all good though.

 We went to a big reading fair.  After a cool performance, where we learned the fine art of beat boxing, among other things, we got to see these cool old cars.  These pics are for Uncle Lee and Uncle Andy.

 We have a neighbor who likes mustangs.  He has two.  One is brand new.

 The kids enjoyed a break from the heat inside the visitors' center.  Hula hoops anyone?

We ended the weekend with a nice Patriotic Concert. 

 You can see my red, white and blue skirt peeking out from the 2nd row.  I played 1st flute.  We started the concert off right with the Boy Scouts of America posting the colors, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem.  We had a fun selection of patriotic music and marches complete with Stars and Stripes Forever and God Bless America.

They sat on the front row and waved their flags a lot for me!  Many people noticed how well behaved they were for the concert.  Chewing gum, waving flags and having some of the older sisters in our ward sitting with them certainly helped.  The concert was followed by an ice cream social with cake, ice cream and lemonade.  The kids had fun eating the ice cream with wooden "spoons".  They asked the lady that was serving the food what they were and she said that's what she used growing up to eat ice cream.  Happy 4th of July this week!
